Fatigue, bone pain, hemmorage, nausea, diahrrea.

I’ve been on Gleevec for 3 weeks. the first week was no different than the previous ones, lots of fatigue, but that is from the leukemia. In the second week, I started having more pain and some diahrrea. The diahrrea cleared up in a few days but the pains got worse. By week three, I have a lot of bone pain. I can get around and i can work, but it hurts quite a bit to move and my legs (thighs) are the worst. I often wake up with pain and my fatigue is not improving.

I’m still learning about leukemia. My drugs seem to be working, but apparently too well. My hemoglobin and platelets are really low. The good news is that my white count has also dropped..dramatically , and now its too low. I’m extremely weak. I try to do things and I can’t, but all in time. I am going to do some drawing today..:). BTW my family is terrific. So very understanding. They even seem to accept the “alien” that greets them each morning. (One offshoot of my drug treatment is periorbital edema, it is a build up of water around the eyes. I have large swollen areas inboard of my eyes on the upper eyelid. I look very strange.) All in all I feel very fortunate. I get great care at the Cleveland Clinic and I appear to be responding to the treatments. I would hope that all here improve and respond. Cancer is a very physically and emotionally demanding journey. Be well all.

Hey Bob, thanks for the update. Do you know how long you will have to take the cancer drugs?
