Cancer Survivor

Fatigue, bone pain, hemmorage, nausea, diahrrea.

I’ve been on Gleevec for 3 weeks. the first week was no different than the previous ones, lots of fatigue, but that is from the leukemia. In the second week, I started having more pain and some diahrrea. The diahrrea cleared up in a few days but the pains got worse. By week three, I have a lot of bone pain. I can get around and i can work, but it hurts quite a bit to move and my legs (thighs) are the worst. I often wake up with pain and my fatigue is not improving.

I feel funny calling myself a Cancer Survivor. I was diagnosed less than one month ago. So far my trip has been pretty easy. Since I have leukemia, no tumors and no surgery. Even the “chemotherapy” is a new kind and I don’t have to go through the difficulty that most patients have. The Gleevec that I take is oral, pills. As long as I follow the instructions, I just have nausea. Actually the big problem so far, both with Leukemia and with treatment is fatigue. I get really tired. Two months ago I was working two jobs and now I am beat at 730 in the evening. I also have constant, but bearable, pain, in my joints and legs. I also have periorbital edema. I wake up in the morning with wildly distorted eyelids.

Welcome Robert! Love your profile photo. I thought the first month was by far the hardest, my head was spining with trying to take it all in and adjust to my new life. Let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to hearing more about how things are going.
